Suite Surrender

Directed by Gordon Dell.

It's 1942, and two of Hollywood's biggest divas have descended upon the luxurious Palm Beach Royale Hotel -- assistants, luggage, and most importantly, a legendary feud with one another in tow. Everything seems to be in order for their wartime performance...that is, until they are somehow assigned to the same suite. Mistaken identities, overblown egos, double entendres, and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles round out this hilarious riot of a love note to the classic farces of the 30s and 40s.

Boz Scaggs

Saturday, August 1, 8:00pm

Fans who have followed Scaggs’ remarkable career dating back to the late Sixties with the Steve Miller Band; his solo triumphs with such classic albums as Silk Degrees (1976) and Middle Man (1980); and the splendid assurance of late-period high points like Some Change (1994) and Dig (2001), will instantly recognize Scaggs’ characteristically deft touch as a singer. He brings a sly drawl to a funky workout like Li’l Millet and the Creoles’ “Rich Woman,” a conversational intimacy to Bobby Charles’s “Small Town Talk,” and an elegant delicacy to the Impressions’ “I’m So Proud.” His soul is effortless and deeply felt, never making a show of itself, but unmistakably evident in every lyric he delivers. See him live on Saturday, August 1 at 8pm! Tickets start at $35 and are on sale now! All ages show.

    Contact: Kathy Hartley   726-0597   kathy.hartley@hearthsidehouse.org

Each year, the Garden Party for Girls and their American Girl Dolls is a favorite summer activity at the historic Hearthside House Museum for moms and their daughters. The focus is on the historical character Samantha who lived with her grandmother in a mansion, like Hearthside, in New York in 1904.  The American Girl Doll Garden Party focuses on the summer pastime activities that Samantha and girls her age would have enjoyed in 1904.

The outdoor event, held under a tent, is for young girls ages 5-10 and their dolls, along with an adult.  Activities include refreshments of lemonade and cookies, a craft activity, a presentation about Samantha's leisure time, and a chance to try out some turn-of-the-century games such as croquet, graces, and hoops. Door prizes, raffle, tours of the museum and shopping for a special treat in Hearthside's Gift Shop, which will include a wonderful collection of handmade outfits and accessories for the dolls, make for a memorable afternoon. Seatings are at noon and also at 2:30 p.m.

The cost is $20 for a child/adult pair; $12 for additional child; $8 for additional adult. Seating is limited and is always a sell-out. Tickets are now on sale and must be purchased in advance by calling Hearthside at 401-726-0597.

In 1904, Rhode Island was represented at the St. Louis World's Fair and won numerous awards for excellence in arts, education, human services, and manufacturing.  The Rhode Island Building at the Fair was modeled after the Stephen Smith mansion in Lincoln, today known as Hearthside.  In a celebration of this unique connection to the greatest international exhibition of all time, Hearthside is hosting an exhibit about the World's Fair and Rhode Island's role there.  The 1810 house museum is filled with informational panels about every aspect of this grand event, along with actual memorabilia and artifacts from the Fair and even a working model of the Ferris Wheel.  While a major festival took place earlier on July 12th, the exhibit remains in place for public viewing.  This tour day will be the final opportunity to see the World's Fair exhibit before it is taken down.

Tours are self-guided, but costumed docents will be on hand to provide background and history of Hearthside.  The house will be open between 1 and 3 p.m. and close at 4 p.m.

Hearthside is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance.  It had been a private home until 1997 when it was purchased by the Town of Lincoln.  The Friends of Hearthside, a volunteer nonprofit organization, maintains and preserves the historic site.

General admission is $8; $6 ages 62+; $5 ages 10-17; under 10 free.

All ages are welcome to join the free "Learn to Weave with Hand Looms" workshop to learn a once-common skill of days gone by. Participants will take home their finished project as a useful souvenir — their own woven bookmark. The workshop is free

After the workshop, you're invited to tour the rooms and exhibits of the Smith-Appleby House, which dates to 1696. It was built by Elisha Smith, the grandson of John Smith “The Miller,” a member of Roger Williams’ original party of six men who left the Massachusetts Bay Colony to settle in Providence. Expanded from its original construction as a one-room stone-ender cottage, the delicately restored 12-room historic farmhouse features beautiful cabinet work, varied architectural designs, original stencils, and furnished rooms showcasing an intriguing collection of antiques. For tours of the house, the adult admission is $5; children are free

Join Audubon for an introduction to mushrooms and fungus, and learn how to identify mushroom groups and species that grow in the area. Start inside with a presentation on mushroom identification- view wild mushrooms on display that were collected from other areas, depending on availability. Next, venture out for a hike in the woods with an expert guide to find mushrooms growing in the wild. Afterwards, sample a couple of tasty mushroom dishes using a variety of cultivated 'wild' mushrooms. Please note: Collecting mushrooms on Audubon properties is prohibited.

REO Speedwagon

Friday, September 11, 8:00pm

Please be advised that due to circumstances beyond our control, the REO Speedwagon concert originally scheduled for 4/10 will now be held on 9/11. Guests may keep the tickets they have already purchased and attend the new date or receive a full refund at their point of purchase. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Formed in 1967, REO Speedwagon is a band where the main constant over the decades is a never-ending desire to give their all to their fans, year in and year out. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more.  Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980′s explosive Hi Infidelity. See them perform their massive hit singles such as “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On the Run” live at the Twin River Event Center on April 10, 2015 at 8pm! All ages welcome. Tickets start at just $35!

Experience the Blackstone River Aboard the
Blackstone Valley Explorer

Once polluted, the Blackstone River has recovered beautifully! On our cruises you may see swan, herons, geese, ducks, turtles, hawks and beautiful plants and trees! The tour guide explains the ecology of the river and surrounding wetlands interspersed with stories about the people and history of the region. If you have never cruised on the Riverboat “Explorer” it is something you must do; and if you have, you can join with us again and again because every time you go on the river, you see something new!
