Imagine yourself back in a time when electricity was new, and airplanes were just getting off the ground. The St. Louis Fair was a magical utopia that attracted millions of visitors from all over the world to see first-hand the latest accomplishments and innovations in science, technology, education and the arts. The original 1904 World's Fair at St. Louis was the grandest international exposition in history, and Rhode Island was represented by many manufacturers, schools, organizations and artists. On July 12, Hearthside celebrates Rhode Island's pride at the fabulous Fair with our own special event ... World's Fair 1904: Rhode Island Stories from History's Greatest Exhibition

Of course, the whole reason we're celebrating the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair is Hearthside's direct connection to it, as it was chosen as the model for the Rhode Island pavilion.  The architects had to select the finest design in which to display the very best Rhode Island had to offer.  And our state did not disappoint!  Numerous awards came back here from organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies who were recognized on the international stage for excellence.  We are proud of these achievements and the role that Rhode Island and Hearthside played in 1904....an important time in our nation's history.

On July 12, Lincoln’s Hearthside House Museum celebrates Rhode Island's pride at the fabulous Fair with its own special event ... Discovering Our Great Past:  Rhode Island at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair.  Hearthside’s special connection to this international exhibition is that the historic house was the model for the Rhode Island Pavilion built for Fair.

Hearthside will be a very active place on this event day, with special exhibits on all three floors inside the museum, while entertainment, arcade games, live music, arcade games, exhibits, and food continue non-stop outdoors throughout the day from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Attractions and themes, all focused on contrasting "then and now," include a sensory room where personal accounts from fairgoers are heard while images from the 1904 Fair are shown, a drone will fly overhead and project live images of Hearthside's festivities, wireless telegraph communications will take place around the grounds and out to St. Louis, cultural performances including German music and dancing, and a performance portraying the true story of Marie Narelle, an Irish singer who was discovered and made famous by Thomas Edison, as well as belly dancing, a stiltwalker, juggler, and exotic animals to touch and learn about, brass band music, an exhibit and demonstration about weather balloons from the Blue Hill Observatory, presentations about the 1904 Fair, antique cars and bicycles, old-fashioned tunes performed in song and keyboard, and a pie tasting contest round out the turn-of-the-century celebration.

A special addition will be a double-header vintage baseball game played by the Providence Grays. The game, with authentic equipment used by the original team from the late 1800's, will be played next door to Hearthside at Chase Farm Park starting at 11 a.m.

All proceeds from the event support the continued preservation of Hearthside. Hearthside House is located at 677 Great Road, Lincoln.  Parking for the event is next door at Chase Farm Park.  Pedi-cab service, similar to the bicycle rickshaws at the 1904 Fair, will be available as a shuttle to and from the activities for those who need assistance.  Tickets are available at the door on the day of the event.  General admission is $10; $8 ages 62+; $5 ages 10-17; under 10 free.  For more information, contact 401-726-0597 or www.hearthsidehouse.org.

Make your own sailboat and participate in the "Rain Gutter Regatta" at the Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield, RI, on Sunday, July 12, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Children of all ages are invited to attend our free workshop to build their own sailboat — and then sail it in competition with their friends and family in our friendly boat races.

The workshop is free. For museum tours, the adult admission is $5 and children are free. Both are part of the Rhody Ramble series of family adventures in Rhode Island.

Whitesnake, the legendary rock’n’roll band founded and formed by Deep Purple singer David Coverdale are proud to announce their 2015 “The Purple Tour” which will feature their biggest hits & songs from the new tribute album. Boz Scaggs

Saturday, August 1, 8:00pm

Fans who have followed Scaggs’ remarkable career dating back to the late Sixties with the Steve Miller Band; his solo triumphs with such classic albums as Silk Degrees (1976) and Middle Man (1980); and the splendid assurance of late-period high points like Some Change (1994) and Dig (2001), will instantly recognize Scaggs’ characteristically deft touch as a singer. He brings a sly drawl to a funky workout like Li’l Millet and the Creoles’ “Rich Woman,” a conversational intimacy to Bobby Charles’s “Small Town Talk,” and an elegant delicacy to the Impressions’ “I’m So Proud.” His soul is effortless and deeply felt, never making a show of itself, but unmistakably evident in every lyric he delivers. See him live on Saturday, August 1 at 8pm! Tickets start at $35 and are on sale now! All ages show.

Join Audubon for an introduction to mushrooms and fungus, and learn how to identify mushroom groups and species that grow in the area. Start inside with a presentation on mushroom identification- view wild mushrooms on display that were collected from other areas, depending on availability. Next, venture out for a hike in the woods with an expert guide to find mushrooms growing in the wild. Afterwards, sample a couple of tasty mushroom dishes using a variety of cultivated 'wild' mushrooms. Please note: Collecting mushrooms on Audubon properties is prohibited.

REO Speedwagon

Friday, September 11, 8:00pm

Please be advised that due to circumstances beyond our control, the REO Speedwagon concert originally scheduled for 4/10 will now be held on 9/11. Guests may keep the tickets they have already purchased and attend the new date or receive a full refund at their point of purchase. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Formed in 1967, REO Speedwagon is a band where the main constant over the decades is a never-ending desire to give their all to their fans, year in and year out. It carved a path that was eventually followed by STYX, Kansas, Cheap Trick and more.  Platinum albums and freeform FM radio staples such as “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980′s explosive Hi Infidelity. See them perform their massive hit singles such as “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On the Run” live at the Twin River Event Center on April 10, 2015 at 8pm! All ages welcome. Tickets start at just $35!
