Join author Deirdre Silvestri as she discusses her children's book If the walls could speak.

Before his death, Mr. O'Brine told Finn many stories about colossal dragons, sorcery, and the magic of Wickum Mannor in Ireland-but they couldn't possibly be real, right? Wrong Magic runs in the O'Brine family; it's part of their heritage.

Now thirteen, Finn will begin to show signs of his magical inheritance any day now. It's time for Finn; his twin sister, Neave; his younger brother, Jack; and his mother, Ailish, to leave the comfort of their home in America and journey to Wickum Manor themselves. They expect a summerlong adventure, but the O'Brine children may not be as ready as they think. With all the fantastic things to experience and discover on the four-hundred-acre estate, will Finn want to enroll at the magical Wickum Academy, or will he choose to return to his friends and classes in America at summer's end?

This program is geared to ages 9 and up, but all who are interested are welcome. No registration required.

Join us for the “Unreeled Film Series” at the Central Library. Laugh and critique aloud as we screen some of the best bad movies of all time! From cardboard props and unconvincing acting, to cheesy plots and predictable storylines, these movies have all the right ingredients for comical, box-office-flop favorites! The last of the Airport series, The Concorde... Airport 79 (1979) is a notorious stinker with a cast list that seems to have been compiled from a binge-watching session of The Love Boat. The plane is on its way to the Moscow Olympics with a bomb on board and gets fired upon with missiles that necessitate flying upside-down. From cardboard props and unconvincing acting, to cheesy plots and predictable storylines, these movies have all the right ingredients for comical, box-office-flop favorites! A monument to poor casting, this week's movie, The Conqueror (1956) features John Wayne as Genghis Khan. Wayne plays the same tough-guy character that he always does, but with a different funny hat. Susan Hayward is on board as Wayne’s love interest: red-headed Tartar princess. Hearing the Duke butcher the movie’s flowery dialogue is sure to cause giggles even in the most serious moviegoer.

For one hour, Teens will work in pairs or groups and work to build different objects.  For this session, the teens will either expand on redstone or choose a new theme of the activities.  Using brain power and YouTube videos, we will be making as many items as we can in the time limit.  Teens are encouraged to bring their ideas with them and expand on the ideas of that session.  This is a drop in program, so no registration is required.  Laptops will be provided, so teens do not need to bring their own.
