Children age 2 - entering grade 5  may come in any day starting June 22nd to register for our Olympic Summer Reading Rewards Program during the following hours:

Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 10 AM - 7 PM

Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM - 4 PM

Children get credit for every day that they read or listen to books for at least 15 minutes.  After every 5 days of reading, they get an Olympic sticker and a prize.  If all 8 stickers are earned, they get a gold medal.

Bring your children to the library on a regular basis this summer to prevent that "Summer Slide" where they lose skills learned during the school year due to lack of reading.

Herbs play many roles in our lives. They flavor our food and drink, are used in medicines, enhance body products, flourish in our landscape and deepen the meanings of our ceremonies. They appear in our myths, legends and fairy tales. In the garden, plain green herbs are often left on the sidelines while flashier plants strut their seasonal stuff. But some of those flashy plants are herbs also! What’s in your garden, medicine chest, cupboard and bathroom? Much of the story of humankind is held in the fragrant green leaves of everyday herbs. Learn about this fascinating family of plants that weave through human history as well as daily life.

Firewalk is about walking into the symbolic fire of fear, feeling vulnerable and alone, yet never giving up. Its pragmatic tools allow you to cross over into the realm of possibilities where courage, healing and tremendous insight can be found. Allow yourself to connect to life, to envision living with passion and joy, and to be the Divine expression of love and light that you are and always will be.

Pat Bateson will inspire you with her story of how she faced a health challenge and discovered ways to move through and heal on every level possible. She shares her insights, wisdom, practical tools and will be your guide to living a life of true health and wellness. She teaches you to discover your own "inner guru" and uncover your gifts and strengths. She believes that transformation is possible for anyone who seeks a path of well-being.

Patricia is a registered nurse, certified hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, and Tong Ren practitioner, and is certified in basic aromatherapy, Raindrop Treatment and Acustone healing. An Andover native, she loves to practice yoga, meditate, garden, and spend time with her growing family.

Contact: Nanci Milone Hill   978-454-5474   nhill@dracutlibrary.org

Heartbeat, Warble, and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music (University of Oklahoma Press, May 2016) celebrates in depth the vibrant soundscape of Native North America from the “heartbeat” of intertribal drums and “warble” of Native flutes to contemporary rock, hip-hop, and electronic music. Drawing on more than one hundred interviews with musicians, producers, ethnographers, and record-label owners, author, photographer, and musician Craig Harris conjures an aural tapestry in which powwow drums and end-blown woodwinds resound alongside operatic and symphonic strains and Native infused rock, jazz, reggae, country music, blues, hip-hip, and electronic dance music.

Passion for music provides fuel for percussionist, educator, author, and photographer, Craig Harris. The author of The New Folk Music, The Band: Pioneers of Americana Music, and Heartbeat, Warble and the Electric Powwow: American Indian Music, Harris has written music-oriented articles, reviews, and photographs for newspapers, magazines, and websites for more than four decades. A skilled percussionist, Harris has appeared in concert and/or on recordings with Rod MacDonald, C.J. Chenier & His Red Hot Louisiana Zydeco Band, Jonathan Edwards, Greg Brown, Don White, Melanie, Rick Danko (The Band), and Merl Saunders. He currently plays with the Gaea Star Band, with whom he cohosts the weekly Gaea Crystal Radio Hour for the Dream Vision 7 Radio Network. Applehead/SONY released their CD, Who We Are in November 2015. Possessing a Master’s in education, Harris taught music in public and charter schools for a quarter of a century before launching his multicultural, participatory, and fun-for-all-ages Drum Away the Blues program in 2009.

New Hampshire Blues Challenge winner "Poor Howard" Stith has been performing 12-string barrel house blues for over forty years. He has performed across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. His expertise on the 12-string guitar, his knowledge of early blues, and his warm sense of humor, have won him fans wherever he travels. "A Walk Through the Delta" is both educational and entertaining, mixing music and folk humor, and showing how this distinctly American music has gained international popularity.
