New Fairfield High School English Teacher, Angela Stolfi will suggest narrative structures for your college essay and give ideas about how to brainstorm anecdotes.  She will point out important changes that have occurred on the Common Application since last year and discuss the meaning behind those changes in a way that will help student better interpret the essay prompts.  In addition, Ms. stolfi will explain what the college essay can do to create a whole picture of the student that is not provided by the transcript and recommendations alone.  Finally, she will address what to do if your preferred school does not use the Common Application.  

Angela Stolfi has taught English for nine years at New Fairfield High School, including classes that required students to prepare their college essays and has recently survived the college application process with her first child.  

Please bring paper and pencils.  Limit of 30 students.  Registration is required.

A Monroe Reads event.

 

Students in grades 6-12, join Kathy Vincent of ArtSmart! Studio for a patriotic themed art workshop inspired by Monroe Reads Together novel Dinner with the Smileys.  Participants will create a series of mixed media interpretations of a "Stars & Stripes" motif. Painting, printmaking, collage & more!

Each participant will be invited to submit one composition for display in celebration of MONROE READS TOGETHER!

Registration is required and is limited to 16 people.

A Monroe Reads event

 

 

Teens in 7th-12th grade, join us in thanking our troops for their hard work and sacrifice.  Writing a letter is a meaningful way to show support for our Military.  We will discuss how you can structure your letter and the types of things people often write about; then let you use your creative abilities to make an attractive card or just write a letter that expresses your gratitude.  Registration is required and begins on September 20th.

A Monroe Reads Event

 

Teens in grade 7-12, join us for this Monroe Reads event.  We will be discussing Laurie Halse Anderson's newest book, The Impossible Knife of Memory, a powerful story about about Hayley Kincaid, a teenage girl whose father struggles with the post traumatic stress disorder that has tortured him since his return from Iraq.  

Copies of the book will be available at the front desk one month ahead of time.  Registration is required.

A Monroe Reads Event

 

Teens in grades 7-12, come learn how to make easy Italian favorites that you can cook for the whole family.  Chef Ray Amabile will demonstrate an easy twist on pizza, strombolies, and calzones withouth the mess and time of mixing dough.  All it takes is a few simple ingredients and a little imagination.  Samples will be available for all to try!

Limited to 30 people.  Registration is required and begins on October 3rd.
