    In his book "The Art of Fiction", John Gardner discusses psychic distance—how close the narrative consciousness is to the character in the story. A first sentence like “Henry J. Warburton had never much cared for snowstorms” sets a different distance than “God, how he hated these damn snowstorms.” Join librarian Donna Wolfe to discuss five degrees of separation for the monthly meeting of this fiction writing group in this encouraging and supportive environment in which to share our writing. To achieve this goal, children will pick the medium of their choice (paint, markers, collage, etc.) to create art of their choice. The librarian will provide assistance and instruction as necessary.

    Valley is a local reading therapy dog who loves listening to stories. Valley will visit the Hopewell Branch Library Tuesday afternoons with his owner Carrie. Children who would like to practice reading aloud may sign-up for one 15 minute session with Valley and Carrie. Children should arrive with a book of their choice to read.

    In this five part film workshop for ages 8-12 we will introduce basic filmmaking equipment and techniques such as storyboarding, composing a shot, getting good lighting and sound, developing a script and shot list, and film editing.

We will shoot a short (~3 minute) film and show it at the last class.

Participants MUST attend the first class and must be committed to attend all the other classes.

Classes will take place on May 7, May 14, May 21, May 28, from 6:00-8:00 pm.
