Girls ages 11 & up and their mothers are invited to our monthly book club meeting to discuss "The Lost & The Found" by Cat Clarke:

When six-year-old Laurel Logan was abducted, the only witness was her younger sister, Faith. Now, thirteen years later, a young woman is found in the front yard of the Logans’ old house, disoriented and clutching the teddy bear Laurel was last seen with. Can her sister finally be back?

No registration necessary.

Meet up with others who are also interested in travel. We’ll brainstorm about day trips as well as weekend get-aways. Where shall we go first? Perhaps we’ll take in a Broadway play and dine at the Playwright Celtic Pub. Add a trip to the Cloisters and make it a two-day jaunt. Or maybe we’ll explore Frederic Church’s art in the idyllic setting of Olana. We may get more ambitious and go kayaking in Maryland. The sky’s the limit! Bring along a hot beverage and enjoy a Liverpool tart or fig Newton. Sponsored by the Friends of the West Windsor Library.

Registration is recommended, though walk-ins are welcome. Registration begins on November 22. Click the Register button, or call the reference desk at 609-275-8901 for information or to register.

RoboAha is a new program that uniquely blends cutting-edge robotics with cultural and communication studies. It aims to equip children with engineering sense, cultivate their cross-cultural perspectives and global mindedness, and enhance their critical thinking, writing, and presentation skills. Special projects are developed to help children achieve greater intercultural communication competence while catering to their interest in robotics..

Be Creative. Be Cooperative. Be a Maker- In the robotics section, children will explore the field of robotics using LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics sets. They will learn the basics of mobile systems, motors, sensors, and programming by designing and building different theme-based robots through which they will apply the social/cultural concepts learned in the intercultural awareness section (see below). (Skill Level: beginner)

Be Aware. Be Prepared. Be Involved - In the intercultural awareness part, children will take a cross-cultural journey by watching foreign and domestic age-appropriate films. Through guided film review writing and discussion, they will gain insights about and appreciation for their own and other cultural groups, increase their self-awareness and self-reflexivity about their cultural identities, develop their ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures, and think critically about the dynamics of intercultural relationships.

Note: It is strongly recommended that children take ALL four classes, as it is designed to progressively increment the level.

There are some people who give and take and there are some who only take. But there are some who always give and they are the happiest people of all. The more you give the more you receive and that is the law of karma. Let’s start to give others what we would like to receive and see the magic. It can be respect, love, happiness, and friendship or even material things. Sometimes we hold ourselves back when it comes to giving because of the fear of being taken for granted or getting hurt.

Join Leena in this insight session and let’s explore together what are those blockages that stop us from being a giver.

Leena, a 9 year practitioner of Rajyoga meditation, delivers youth and adult programs on values and facilitates workshops on topics such as Harmony in Relationships, Stress Free Living, & more. This workshop provides basic training in the use of QuickBooks accounting software in the cloud. Through a lecture and demonstration format, you’ll get an overview of how to effectively use QuickBooks from the perspective of a small business owner. We will approach the subject as a sales process, including how to track customers, sales, income, expenses, deposits, payments, etc.

This is an interactive session, and participants are encouraged to prepare for class by downloading QuickBooks Online via a free 30-day trial from www.intuit.com and by bringing a fully charged laptop to class to get a hands-on experience. We will be using the Essentials version of QuickBooks in class, but you can compare various versions at http://quickbooks.intuit.com/online/compare/ to select the most appropriate one for your business.

misc_none 5:00 PM  -  6:30 PM Robotics with Intercultural Awareness Class Grades 2-5   Download Event Info Tell a Friend
