Through structured group activities, we play with musical instruments, puppets, parachutes, and more! Interactive Public Speaking

… at the West Windsor Public Library

A free program offered by Jaidev Phadke and Jordon DeGroote, members of the local High School South Model United Nations team, ranked top 4 in the nation. The novice course will cover the purpose and basics of speaking, and will cater to students less comfortable to public speaking, while the advanced course will serve a more experienced crowd with a deeper analysis of the skill. Whether a beginner or a seasoned veteran, public speaking is an invaluable tool for every walk of life, and a key ingredient to success in the 21st Century.

Through the course of the "camp," we will be designing games and other programs, culminating with a day of designing a final game with a team and showcasing it!

The camp lasts for five days: Monday,August 4; Tuesday, August 5, Wednesday, August 6; Friday, August 8; and Saturday, August 9. Students who sign up for the program are expected to come for all the days of the "camp," with Saturday being optional.

    This program requires absolutely no programming experience, and in fact, encourages those with no experience to come. We intend to teach students basic computer science principles using Scratch, and as time permits, move on to the basics of Java.

Through the course of the "camp," we will be designing games and other programs, culminating with a day of designing a final game with a team and showcasing it!

The camp lasts for five days: Monday,August 4; Tuesday, August 5, Wednesday, August 6; Friday, August 8; and Saturday, August 9. Students who sign up for the program are expected to come for all the days of the "camp," with Saturday being optional.

STUDENTS MUST BRING A LAPTOP EVERY DAY.

    Arduino is an open-source platform used for building electronics projects.

It consists of a programmable circuit board and software that runs on a computer.

Working in small groups, we’ll use the SparkFun Inventor’s Kit. This kit includes everything needed to complete 15 circuits. We will learn how to read sensors, display information on an LCD, drive motors, and more.

Previous programming or electronics experience is not necessary.

The children’s activity room will be open for children ages 5 and under. For safety reasons, the caregiver that brings the child must remain in the room to supervise.

(Library staff will not be present in the room.)

Children and caregivers may play and socialize. Toys, chalkboards, magnet board, puzzles, crayons and a variety of rotating educational items are housed in this room.

Materials have been purchased by the Friends of the Lawrence Library.

    Join Ria Mittal for a weeklong workshop on eating and living healthily developed as her Girl Scout Gold Award project. The workshop consists of 5 sessions (Monday-Friday) in which trained specialists join her to encourage healthy eating, nutrition and fitness.

Since these programs are part of a series, please try to attend as many as possible. You must register for each program individually.

Interactive Public Speaking

… at the West Windsor Public Library

A free program offered by Jaidev Phadke and Jordon DeGroote, members of the local High School South Model United Nations team, ranked top 4 in the nation. The novice course will cover the purpose and basics of speaking, and will cater to students less comfortable to public speaking, while the advanced course will serve a more experienced crowd with a deeper analysis of the skill. Whether a beginner or a seasoned veteran, public speaking is an invaluable tool for every walk of life, and a key ingredient to success in the 21st Century.
