    Contact: Briana Cahill   609-737-2610   bcahill@mcl.org

RoboAha TM is a new program that uniquely blends cutting-edge robotics with cultural and communication studies.  It aims to equip children with engineering sense, cultivate their cross-cultural perspectives and global mindedness, and enhance their critical thinking, writing and presentation skills.  Special projects are developed to help children achieve greater intercultural communication competence while catering to their interest in robotics.

Robotics Class - Children will explore the field of robotics using LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics sets.  They will learn the basics of mobile systems, motors, sensors and programming by designing and building different robots.  These robots are themed robots for applying and understanding the social/cultural concepts learned via Intercultural Awareness Classes (see separate event for this).

Note: Children should consider taking BOTH robotics and intercultural awareness classes in order to get the most benefit.  For the robotics part, it is strongly recommended that children take ALL five classes, as it is designed to progressivley increment the level.  For the intercultural awareness part, children can take any one or all five of the classes.

Space is limited! Online registration is required.  Please sign up for each class separately.

Intercultural Awareness Class - Children will take a cross-cultural journey by watching a variety of foreign and domestic age-appropriate films.  Through guided discussion and self-reflection, they will gain insights about and appreciation for their own and other cultural groups, increase their self-awareness and self-reflexivity about their cultural identities, develop their ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures, and think critically about the dynamics of intercultural relationships.  (See also Robotics Classes under a separate event.)

Grades 1 - 4.
