The Latin Lovers Book Group is an informal classical Latin reading and discussion group open to all who are interested.  Throughout July participants will read and discuss the Aeneid Book VI, the Trojan hero Aeneas’ descent into the underworld to find his father.  Meetings will focus on the new translation by Seamus Heaney (Farrar, Straus and Giroux). Published posthumously, Heaney created a vivid and transfixing poetic rendering of Aeneas’ mythic quest.  Join us in reading and translating passages in Latin and discussing in English, as well as devoting time to the text in translation and modern and mythic echoes.  (Note: While Heaney's translation will be the focus, other texts and translations of the Aeneid are accepted for translation and discussion.)
