For children under 5 years old. For safety reasons, the caregiver that brings the child must remain in the room to supervise.

The children’s activity room will be open to families. A variety of rotating fun and educational toys are housed in this room for independent play and learning. There are tables, a rug and a sink for washing up. Light snacking is permitted. Chatting and socializing in low voices is encouraged.

*Although partially separated, this room is not soundproof and ongoing noise can be heard in the library where other visitors and staff are present. We ask caregivers to stay aware and monitor their noise and activity levels; Children or babies who are upset or distraught should be taken out of the area if the noise becomes ongoing or disruptive to others in the library.

Learn the ancient art of paper quilling and create a bookmark.

Choose from a flower, a snail or a goldfish.

For children 9-13 years old. Caregiver must stay in the library.

You may come and start your project anytime between 1:00-1:45. Project will take about 20 minutes to complete.

There might be a small wait time for rotation into different stations. Number of bookmarks made will depend on number of children in attendance.

Clean up will begin 45 minutes after start time.

This three-part workshop will cover how to write, make, and edit a short film, with emphasis on practical skills including basic scriptwriting, storyboarding, using camera, lights, and sound equipment, and the steps involved in shooting actual film scenes. In the course of this workshop we will shoot a short film which we will show at a special screening at the library.

In response to Princeton Healthcare System's recent community needs assessment, this program was developed to help combat obesity. This program is presented thanks to the generous support of Scott and Tracy Sipprelle and Novo Nordisk. "Savvy snacks" is the theme for July 5. Participants will learn the importance of healthier snacking. They will learn which snacks to limit due to unhealthy ingredients and will be able to identify healthier snack options.

 

Registration is required, beginning at 7am on June 20th.

Preference at the door will be given to patrons who have registered with a valid MCLS library card. Participants must arrive in time to start the program or their place may be forfeited. A patron who does not attend a class, will have their name removed from the remaining sessions to allow space for another interested patron to attend. For children under 5 years old.  For safety reasons, the caregiver that brings the child must remain in the room to supervise.

The children’s activity room will be open to families. A variety of rotating fun and educational toys are housed in this room for independent play and learning. There are tables, a rug and a sink for washing up. Light snacking is permitted. Chatting and socializing in low voices is encouraged.

*Although partially separated, this room is not soundproof and ongoing noise can be heard in the library where other visitors and staff are present. We ask caregivers to stay aware and monitor their noise and activity levels; Children or babies who are upset or distraught should be taken out of the area if the noise becomes ongoing or disruptive to others in the library.

The children’s activity room will be open to families. A variety of rotating fun and educational toys are housed in this room for independent play and learning. There are tables, a rug and a sink for washing up. Light snacking is permitted. Chatting and socializing in low voices is encouraged.

*Although partially separated, this room is not soundproof and ongoing noise can be heard in the library where other visitors and staff are present. We ask caregivers to stay aware and monitor their noise and activity levels; Children or babies who are upset or distraught should be taken out of the area if the noise becomes ongoing or disruptive to others in the library.

More than 800,000 New Yorkers served in the armed forces during World War II. In this lecture, professional tour guide Marty Schneit will discuss: German American Bund, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary troopships, the Manhattan Project, The Brooklyn Army Terminal, Stage Door Canteen, Rosie the Riveter, Camp Shanks, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the Shinran Statute.

For children under 5 years old.  For safety reasons, the caregiver that brings the child must remain in the room to supervise.

The children’s activity room will be open to families. A variety of rotating fun and educational toys are housed in this room for independent play and learning. There are tables, a rug and a sink for washing up. Light snacking is permitted. Chatting and socializing in low voices is encouraged.

*Although partially separated, this room is not soundproof and ongoing noise can be heard in the library where other visitors and staff are present. We ask caregivers to stay aware and monitor their noise and activity levels; Children or babies who are upset or distraught should be taken out of the area if the noise becomes ongoing or disruptive to others in the library.

This is an introductory hand embroidery class designed for beginners. We'll begin by getting acquainted with the basic materials and techniques used for hand embroidery, then dive into learning a variety of basic embroidery stitches. Your first embroidery project will be a small stitch sampler.

The Latin Lovers Book Group is an informal classical Latin reading and discussion group open to all who are interested.  Throughout July participants will read and discuss the Aeneid Book VI, the Trojan hero Aeneas’ descent into the underworld to find his father.  Meetings will focus on the new translation by Seamus Heaney (Farrar, Straus and Giroux). Published posthumously, Heaney created a vivid and transfixing poetic rendering of Aeneas’ mythic quest.  Join us in reading and translating passages in Latin and discussing in English, as well as devoting time to the text in translation and modern and mythic echoes.  (Note: While Heaney's translation will be the focus, other texts and translations of the Aeneid are accepted for translation and discussion.)
