An Acting/Character Development Workshop is being offered this summer through the Medway Public Library. The workshop will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 PM beginning Monday July 7th and ending with a performance on Wednesday Aug. 13th (see schedule below). The workshop will be led by Jim Porter, who has been acting in and directing local theater in Massachusetts for over 30 years. Mr. Porter holds a BA degree in Media/Theater Arts from Worcester State University, and was nominated for the prestigious Irene Ryan Scholarship while in college. The workshop will include physical and mental techniques that can aid both the novice and experienced actor in creating a believable character using methods learned by Porter over his career. Students will each be assigned a monologue and scene to memorize, characterize and present as a practical test of their newly developed skills.

Participation is open to all who are interested, whether experienced or new to the stage.Teens from age 10 to 18 years may participate. You may also sign up while you are at the library.

On-going lecture series to expose teens to different career options in the sciences. 

This week we are pleased to host Joan McDonagh, a pediatrician at Reliant Medical Group. Joan grew up in North Attleboro in a family of 9 children.  She was diagnosed with a birth defect at 2 years old and had surgery funded by the March of Dimes, which kindled her love of science and service of children. Joan attended college at Holy Cross and medical school at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester. She stayed at their hospital for her three years residency in Pediatrics and was hired by Fallon Clinic, now called Reliant Medical Group, at that time and have been with them ever since.

Goldiblox is a toy set that teaches children (specifically targeting girls)  engineering skills. Each set is accompanied by a story that leads them through building a simple machine. Children will be put in pairs to work together. Children must be accompanied with an adult. Space limited to 14 participants ages 4-7, registration required.

The program "3,2,1...Activate" features two multicultural folktakes that are not merely told, but flipped and activated by two professional performers with some help from the audience.  This 45-minute theatrical production features non-stop action, physical comedy, audience participation, American Sign Language and imaginative props.

The show is recommended for preschool-6th grade students and their families!

This week we are pleased to host Brittany Sidway, director of Medway Community Farm. Brittany began farming at MCF in the spring of 2010.  Since then the farm has grown from a bare field, to a small garden plot and farm stand to it's current state with more than 200 CSA members. She has worked at organic farms in British Columbia, Canada and in Upstate New York and has a BA in Environmental Studies from Northeastern University.
