Beginning the week of September 8, 2014, Family Story Time will be presented every Monday at 11:00 am at the Manomet Branch Library, and every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Main Library.  This half-hour program gives parents, caregivers, and children ages 6 and under the opportunity to enjoy books, songs, rhymes, and movement activities together while helping to develop important early literacy skills.

Research shows that children get ready to read years before they start school.  There are six pre-reading areas of knowledge which children must develop:  letter knowledge, phonological awareness, vocabulary, narrative skills, print awareness, and print motivation.  Each week during Family Story Time, we pick one of the six pre-reading skills and put together a series of stories, music, and activities designed to reinforce these particular skills. We will also give parents ideas for how to work on these skills at home. This program is free and no registration is required.

To commemorate Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11, the Plymouth Public Library will host Fire Safety Day with the Plymouth Fire Department on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 10 a.m. Children with their parents will have the opportunity to meet and greet local firefighters, learn about what they do, and see firefighting equipment up close. A special feature will be the Fire Safety House, which simulates a real house and is used as an educational tool to teach fire safety. Children will have a chance to tour the house and learn what to do in case of an emergency.

Fire Prevention Week was established to remember the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This year’s theme, “Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month”, emphasizes the importance of having a fire safety plan to keep families prepared and safe.

This workshop is geared toward assisting the MBE/WBE and Small Construction companies in becoming DCAMM-certified. This program will cover the DCAMM Certification Application requirements and the process for becoming certified as a Prime Contractor & Filed Sub-bidder for those parties interested in bidding on M.G.L. Chapter 149 and 149A vertical building construction work in the Commonwealth.  We will also be announcing  the implementation of a new small project certification.

Contractor Certification is responsible for promoting equality of opportunity in state construction contracting and encouraging full participation of minority and women owned businesses in all areas including contracts for construction, design, goods and services.

These are free workshops we hold in order to inform contractors of our certification process and what to expect and to address any questions or concerns they may have.  DCAMM handles event publication and registration.  If you would be interested in posting the registration link on your wedsite I will provide it to you once it has been generated.

Thank you!
