Have you ever had an experience that you simply cannot explain? The Ain't it Scary? with Sean & Carrie podcast will be hosting an in-person presentation with Acton Public Library on December 4th at 6pm covering a short history of paranormal and ghost stories in New England - from the cases of the Conjuring series-inspiring Warrens to hauntings relating to major historical events to some of the spookiest and strangest stories based in the Northeastern US. Feel free to bring your curiosity, questions, and an open mind!
Our New England Ghost Stories program is an overview of some of the most famous New England hauntings and the stories behind them, like some of the Warrens' cases, the Lizzie Borden house, a covered bridge in Vermont and more. With images we tell the stories behind the hauntings. Q&A at the end for anyone who wants to know more about any of the tales.
Light refreshments . Please Register
-some interactive light and fog effects may be used
The Ain't it Scary? with Sean & Carrie podcast is hosted by Sean & Carrie McCabe, a married couple with differing viewpoints on the unbelievable. He's skeptical. She's spooky. Together they explore the unknown, unsolved, unbelievable, and just plain weird, with topics ranging from true crime (D.B. Cooper, Jack the Ripper), the paranormal (the Amityville Horror, Gettysburg ghosts), historical weirdness (Henry VIII, cannibalism at Jamestown) and everything, well, scary (urban legends, cryptids, conspiracies and more). "Sean & Carrie keep the conversation flowing, making you feel like you're sitting at a dinner table discussing all things crime. It's funny, informative, genuinely interesting and well worth a listen..." -Crime Monthly Magazine

A lifelong cellist, Ryan Mitten has a unique perspective and style. He plays what you might expect to hear played on a cello (think: Bach and Mozart), but encourages his audience to think bigger. He transports listeners to Hogwarts with the Harry Potter soundtrack then sends them to a galaxy far, far away with recognizable Star Wars repertoire. No two performances are alike as Ryan takes great care in catering to his audience. Music lovers of any age will appreciate his versatility, and do take advantage of his routine offer after for “any requests” (and improvisational skills on the cello).
Ryan Mitten is a cellist and special education professor who also plays mandolin, guitar, banjo and piano. He is a member of the Pleasantville based folk band Nannyhagan Creek, the Skunk Misery Ramblers and a mandolin strumming Living History Interpreter at the Mark Twain House and Museum.
Free and open to all ages.

Son of an African king, Venture Smith became the first black man to document his capture from Africa and life as an American slave and later a successful black freeman in Connecticut. Well-known and respected, Venture Smith spent most of his freedom years in Haddam Neck and East Haddam, Connecticut. His grave is one of the original sites on the Connecticut Freedom Trail. His narrative, a 32-page booklet published by the Charles Holt company in 1798, is still in print today. In this rare document, Venture Smith takes his readers on his incredible journey from Africa to life in Colonial New England. In this presentation you will learn how Venture bought his freedom back and became a successful black businessman in Colonial Connecticut. Why Venture Smith's Narrative is an Important Part of Colonial New England History will be presented by Susan R. Waide.

The Kerry Boys are Mark James and Pierce Campbell. These two Connecticut Irish Balladeers combined their talents to form an exciting Irish music duo over 25 years ago. Both are strong vocalists and instrumentalists with Mark playing guitar and Pierce playing mandolin, guitar and banjo and writing great pub songs. This enables them to sing pristine harmonies rarely heard anymore, while backing them up with powerful and expressive instrumentation, as well as having original material that fits so well with their traditional songs. Their performances are truly a shared experience as they engage audiences of all ages in singing and clapping.
Free and open to all.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an American lawyer and jurist who served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in September 2020. She was the second woman and the first Jewish woman ever appointed to the Court and became the longest serving Jewish Justice.
She championed fairness and equality and objected to different expectations for men and women, prejudice against minority groups in places like hotels and restaurants, and women having fewer job opportunities than men. Ruth served on the national board of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and launched The Women’s Rights Project, she continued to be a leading voice for gender equality, women’s interests, and civil rights and liberties.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life continues to be one of achievement: as a lawyer, professor of law, a judge, and then a Supreme Court justice, she stands out because she was not afraid to dissent, disapprove, and disagree with conditions of unfairness and inequality. This show is the inspiring story of how she changed her life—and ours.
This one-woman show will be presented by Sheryl Faye.
