The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

On August 8-9 of 1969, a series of shocking murders occurred in Laurel Canyon, California. Known forever as the Tate-LaBianca murders, they were master-minded by Charles Manson. What few know is that Manson and his "family" had been to Laurel Canyon many times, and had even been 'friends" with many of the high level musicians living there. Such talents as Mama Cass, Frank Zappa, Neil Young, and Dennis Wilson had interacted with the Manson family and even encouraged Charles Manson to pursue a musical career of his own. Join us as we unlock this mystery of association and break down the real reasons for the murders perpetrated by Manson. A combination of documentary and music footage come together to paint a portrait of Laurel Canyon, who's innocence was forever broken on those fateful nights! Presented by Keith Crocker.

Horticulturist Paul Levine will discuss mums, cabbages, and many more plants to beautify your home inside and out. Q&A follows. Plants will be raffled off at the end of the program.

Roosevelt’s State of the Union Address delivered on January 6, 1941, it appeared in the March 6, 1943 issue of the Saturday Evening Post. While it has become an ideal representation of the American family on Thanksgiving Day, many are unaware that it is the third of the Four Freedoms series created by the artist to illustrate the tenets of American democracy. Learn more about the evolution of Rockwell’s illustrations and the complicated legacy his works evoke. Presented by Michael Rodgers.

It was called the Lower East Side because it was low, swampy, disease ridden, and insect infested. Only the poorest of the new immigrants lived there until they either died or had the means to get out. Poor Dutch and English, later Irish and Germans and finally in the late 1800s, Jews from Eastern Europe. They filled the neighborhood with synagogues, kosher restaurants and grocery stores, bakeries, street markets, garment factories, Yiddish language newspapers, and overcrowded tenements. The half-million Jews of the Lower East Side eventually moved to Harlem, Brooklyn and The Bronx but the memories of this once-vibrant Jewish neighborhood are preserved in books, Broadway shows, films and family histories. Nicotine Anonymous ("NicA") is a non-profit 12-step fellowship of people helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Les will take us on a delightful and fun-filled musical journey down Memory Lane, where we will experience the magic of some of the greatest and most iconic songs from the 1920s through the 1970s, each note transporting us back in time to relive the unforgettable moments and cherished memories associated with this remarkable era of music.

Make a new friend while helping NBPL's young patrons to make Thanksgiving-themed crafts! All supplies will be provided. 

At the board game night, there will be thirty or more games to choose from to learn how to play. We will be featuring NMBR 9, but also feel free to choose a game from the North Bellmore Library collection or one of the dozens that Game Master Games brings. So whether you want to try the internationally popular Catan, a challenge like Hegemony or Ark Nova, or you want to try something fast and fun…there will be something for you.

Open to high school students.

This review session will focus on tackling test-like questions of all difficulty levels. It will include practice with the digital SAT-specific calculator as well as the Question Bank provided by the College Board. The instructor will also leave time to answer questions about what to expect leading up to and on Test Day. This program is for students only; students did not need to have taken the previous SAT review session to participate in this program. 

Open to grades 3 and up. Grades 6 and up may register here; grades 3-5 please register separately. All grades will attend together. 

Join an instructor from the Long Island Chess Nuts to learn some new chess moves! This session will include instruction and time to practice your new skills. Beginners are welcome!

Simply Stronger with Marilyn Bunger is a dynamic exercise class that caters to all fitness levels, offering a blend of cardiovascular warm-up, strength training with hand weights and resistance bands, and flexibility exercises to enhance bone mass and muscle strength. Whether seated or standing, participants engage in basic exercises designed to improve balance and joint protection, concluding with a soothing cooldown of stretching and mindful breathing. This *virtual* workshop will discuss current college admissions trends, admissions strategies, the changing test-optional environment, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find schools that can be a good fit for your child, a timeline, and action steps that can be taken to make this fall productive and help reduce the stress around the college admissions process. It will examine the holistic admissions review process, what admissions officers consider important when they review applicants, and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission. Finally, it will discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for meaningful experiences, personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others. 

Enjoy the mobility and vitality that regular yoga practice can provide, while feeling supported in a chair (no floor work). This is a very gentle program with modifications. Beginners welcomed. Led by Barbara Siems.
